Why this petition matters

Started by Demi Leigh Dale

As a third year student starting the final semester of my studies as an undergraduate, the tone amongst fellow students is low and morale is even lower.

This is due to the fact we’re expected to sit in-house examinations in Summer 2022 which will account for a large segment of our overall degree classification. Many 3rd year students have not sat a formal examination since a-level exams in 2019, and for mature students it is even longer.

we have been patient and understanding with the university since March 2020. We have understood staff absences due to COVID, we have understood online learning restrictions, and we have understood that face to face sessions were cut by 15 minutes in order to “ventilate the classroom”. So, understand us.

we are not living in a post-Covid world. We are still living through it and it’s impacts everyday. Students are still losing family members and friends to this terrible virus. We haven’t even had the opportunity to sit a mock exam in our whole time at Liverpool Hope University.

Therefore, we are asking for the executive board within LHU to take a stand with multiple other universities across the U.K and consider to give us the option to have a voice, and to create an opt - in/out process for examinations on campus this summer. Don’t let this become a sad story due to circumstances us as students couldn’t help, just as much as you couldn’t help the changed to the courses we agreed to pay for.
