Gun found on LISD campus! Yet LISD says there was no direct threat. There was a direct threat to our students, teachers and staff on this campus. LISD has stated that our children’s safety is there main concern. I have a hard time believing this for the fact that this is the second time a weapon has been found in a LISD school. What will it take before the administration gets off their ass and does something? Will it take someone getting hurt or possible killed before anything is done? There are steps that can be taken to improve the safety of our students, teachers and staff. Now there may be some people who disagree with me but if you think about what I am saying tell me that this would not help secure the safety of our schools.
Recently my wife and I traveled to Washington DC. We spent all our days there walking the mall seeing the wonderful monuments and visiting the many Smithsonian museums. Millions of people a year come to these museums, and at every entrance they have metal detectors and bag screening. There was a small wait time to get into the museum but when inside the secure feeling you had cannot be explained Now I can already here people claiming this will cost a fortune and that will be a huge inconvenience getting all the students through this process, and that they don’t want to see metal detectors at school because it makes our schools not only look bad, but look more like prisons, but is the safety of your child or love one who attends this school not worth it? Let’s face it LISD has no problem spending money that in my opinion is not spent in the proper places. As a tax payer in the district I have no problem paying for the safety of my kids. This year Hudson Pep has a no backpack policy, all students have trapper keepers. If we do this to our middle schools, and high schools this will cut down the inspection process when using metal detectors, and will cut down on weapons being hidden in bags along with drugs. I have two girls in high school and I truly don’t see the need in them having a back pack, it’s not like they are issued books like we were in school. These are just a few ideas that need to be discussed. We cannot just sit back and expect the LISD administration to handle this, we have all seen how they handle problems
Thank You,
