Lisa’s Law: Stop Denying Cancer Screenings to Young Women

The Issue

No More Denied Screenings: Demand Early Cancer Detection & Genetic Testing

My name is Dana O’Lone, and I am fighting for change in honor of my sister, Lisa Francis.

Lisa was only 32 years old when she tried to get a breast cancer screening but was denied—simply because of her age. By the time she was finally diagnosed, her cancer had already progressed. After her diagnosis, she took a genetic test and discovered she had Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), a rare condition that drastically increases the risk of early cancer. Had she been screened or genetically tested sooner, she could have taken preventative action and might still be here today.

Lisa passed away at 37 years old, and her story is not unique. Every year, thousands of people are denied cancer screenings because they don’t meet outdated age requirements. Many don’t even know they carry life-threatening genetic conditions because testing is too difficult to access.

This must change. We are demanding that policymakers and healthcare leaders take action NOW by:

 1. Ending age-based restrictions on cancer screenings. If someone has a lump, a genetic risk, or personal concerns, they should never be turned away.

 2. Making genetic testing more accessible, especially for hereditary cancer syndromes like Li-Fraumeni.

 3. Considering genetic testing at birth for conditions that drastically impact early-life cancer risk.

Early detection saves lives. No one should be denied a screening. No one should be unaware of a preventable risk.

Sign this petition today and help ensure that what happened to Lisa never happens to anyone else.
