Restore the Saturday Waste Recycling Collection in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

Restore the Saturday Waste Recycling Collection in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
The Issue
This petition demands that Lincolnshire County Council (LCC), restores the Saturday recycling materials collection from Stamford Cattle Market car park.
Stamford, with over 20K residents, is the largest town in Lincolnshire without a waste recycling centre, and with proposed housing developments, it is growing. The absence of recycling options encourages littering and fly-tipping. Data shows the biggest fly tipping culprit is domestic waste ranging from a single bag of rubbish through to entire van loads. The negative impact on our environment, wildlife, biodiversity and people is vast, as a lot of waste materials are hazardous and not biodegradable. Extreme fly-tipping is plaguing Lincolnshire’s country lanes and beauty spots in unprecedented levels never seen before lockdown[1]. This is costing councils i.e Stamford taxpayers, thousands of pounds every year, estimated to be £2.5 million in 2017 for all councils in Lincolnshire[2].
Stamford residents are forced to travel to our nearest waste recycling centre in Bourne; not everyone has access to a suitable car, can afford the petrol costs or can spare the time for the trip. Notwithstanding that the journey creates CO2 emissions that are pumped into the atmosphere. How is that ensuring that Lincolnshire meets the government’s target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050?
Lincolnshire County Council have adopted a policy that if the recycling plant is ‘less than 12 miles from the nearest recycling centre’ then they will not provide additional waste collection services. Stamford Cattle Market to Bourne Recycling Centre is conveniently 11.7 miles apart. The provision of a waste collection service should be based on local demand and need not distance, the Cattle Market Car Park collection is popular and well-used and should be restored.
Lincolnshire County Council needs to support Stamford residents tackle the Climate Emergency.
