Move LPS Graduation to Outdoor Venue

Move LPS Graduation to Outdoor Venue
The Issue
Seniors across LPS have worked extremely hard for 13 years and we, the parents, family members, and students of Lincoln Public Schools, feel that a drive-thru graduation is not representative of everything they have achieved. With the Phase 3 guidelines in Nebraska for COVID-19 coming into effect June 22nd, which allow up to 10,000 participants in an outdoor venue, having a ceremony with limited participants at Seacrest Field (or another outdoor venue) would be safe and enjoyable. Utilizing LPS resources should reduce the cost associated with the graduation ceremonies as well.
While we understand COVID-19 requires us to make some sacrifices, and although we sincerely appreciate the planning that went into the drive-thru ceremony, we feel this is a reasonable and safe alternative. Additionally, some schools have already gone through with a drive-thru celebration, so students may be hesitant to participate in another one. As our students would say, "this is not the move."
Our students have missed out on so many "lasts" already - we can still give them this. Please sign if you agree with our proposal, and congratulations to the class of 2020!
