Dear Supporters,

I am pleased to inform you of a recent legal victory against Nestle.  The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation (MCWC) and the citizens of Osceola County that Osceola township had the right to deny Nestle a permit for a booster station.  According to the MCWC, the court “affirmed the right of the zoning board to enforce its own ordinance and to take seriously the wishes of the people who elected them in the first place” (Michigan Citizens of Water Conservation: Year End Summary).  Furthermore, “Every one of Nestle’s arguments was declared invalid” (Michigan Citizens of Water Conservation: Year End Summary), among which was the argument that bottled water is an essential public right.

The struggle to limit Nestle’s water withdrawals is not over: Nestle can appeal to the supreme court, or  “try even more environmentally damaging ways to get the water to the trucking station, like new pipes or trucks on rural roads, and have publicly threatened to do so” (Michigan Citizens of Water Conservation: Year End Summary).

This decision brings us one step closer to our goal. As always, please inform all of your friends and family about this petition, every supporter counts!

Sincerely,
Yousef
