Dear Supporters,
I wanted to update you on some changes that you may have noticed over the past Summer. Governor Whitmer has reorganized some of the organizations heading environment and energy into the new Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. Thankfully, this should not in any way impact our work and the campaign to prevent Nestle from increasing water withdrawals from White Pine Springs.
In July, I had the opportunity to meet with MCWC President Peggy Case and two other MCWC board members, John McLane and Jim Maturen in Evart. While there, we met up with Ms. Rhonda Huff and her mother, Ms. Maryann Borden, two Evart residents. You may recognize Ms. Huff’s name from the petition; she took the picture that was displayed along with the petition and has long played an active role in opposition to Nestle’s water withdrawals. Her mother, Ms. Borden, also continues to play an active role with MCWC and served as a former president. Whilst there, I also had the opportunity to conduct a brief interview with the members of the MCWC board along with Ms. Huff and her mother. I have attached part of this interview, where Ms. Huff explains how the water levels at Chippewa Creek have dropped over the years. I have posted the link below.
Once again, I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for this cause. I would have never imagined that we would have reached over 150,000 signatures and still continue to grow. As always, continue to spread the word about this petition to everyone you know, because every signature counts!
Sincerely,
Yousef Emara
