Limit Annual Rent Increases in Mobile Home Parks to 5%

The Issue

I, like many other residents, find myself on the verge of eviction from the mobile home park where I live, a place I've invested time, money and heart into. The reason is not neglect or irresponsibility, but an untenable surge in lot rent from $390/month to $650/month. Without existing legislation to protect us from such increases, we are at the mercy of the landowners.

However, displacement is avoidable if we enact a law limiting annual rent increases to 5% in mobile home parks. This situation is neither isolated nor uncommon. According to a 2018 study by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, 1 in 4 households in these parks do not have adequate protections against unreasonable rent hikes. This issue becomes even more pressing when we realize that about one-third of mobile home residents are seniors on limited income (U.S. Census Bureau, 2017). For them, losing their homes means losing their entire investment, as relocating a mobile home can cost an average of $80,000

It's time to establish a legislative safety net for the millions who choose mobile homes for their affordability and community. By signing this petition, we demand rent stability, enabling residents to enjoy their homes without the threat of skyrocketing rents. Let's protect homeownership and affordability in our mobile home parks. Please sign this petition today.
