The skatepark at Dougherty Field in Portland, Maine is hugely popular. Community members of all ages can be seen enjoying the park year round, even taking the initiative to shovel away the snow during the winter. The park is a well loved and important public space that offers a safe and inclusive environment for social interaction and physical activity.

By providing lighting for the park, the city would be able to:

A. Vastly improve park accessibility during seasons when daylight is limited

B. Increase safety by improving visibility for users and discouraging unsavory activity

C. Get maximum potential out of an already existing park
