The Issue

We, the undersigned students, parents, and educators of Canada, are writing to express our concerns regarding the recent ban on mobile phones in our schools. While we understand and appreciate the intent to minimize distractions and enhance the learning environment, the outright prohibition of phones has led to several unforeseen negative consequences that significantly impact our school community. This announcement has caused many students, parents and teachers as well, to back fire against this as this ban due to many reasons.

Key Concerns:

Emergency Communication:

Mobile phones serve as a vital tool for communication in emergencies. Students need to be able to reach their parents or guardians promptly in case of an unexpected situation.

Educational Resources:

Phones are an important resource for educational purposes. They allow students to access online learning tools, research information quickly, and utilize educational apps that complement classroom learning.

Mental Health and Well-being:

The abrupt ban has caused significant stress and anxiety among students who feel disconnected from their support networks. Social interaction, even through phones, is crucial for their mental well-being.

Parental Concerns:

Parents are worried about not being able to contact their children during school hours. This lack of communication can cause undue anxiety and concern, especially in today's climate of heightened awareness regarding school safety.

We immediately request for this ban to be lifted from all school boards, As students, parents and students are strictly against this new rule due to the reasons stated above and other reasons which were not mentioned. As students we must have the freedom to access our personal devices and we are aware of what is good for us and what is not and it is our choice whether we want to engage for the sake of our education or not. The future is for us to decide for ourselves.
