The Issue

I know I can speak for myself and many others when I say we want Coolmathgames back. As dedicated students who value both learning and play, we’re deeply disappointed that Coolmathgames.com  has been blocked in our district. This site is more than just entertainment—it’s a resource that helps us engage with mathematical concepts in interactive and exciting ways.

Coolmathgames.com  aligns with Common Core standards, offering a variety of educational games that make math approachable and fun. Research, including a 2018 study from the Johns Hopkins School of Education, has highlighted the positive impact of game-based learning on students' math achievement. Taking away this tool limits an innovative learning approach that many of us rely on.

While we understand the importance of maintaining a focused academic environment, Coolmathgames.com  does not contain inappropriate content or distractions that undermine this goal. Instead, it serves as a valuable supplement to traditional math education—allowing us to visualize concepts, practice problem-solving, and engage in learning beyond the classroom.

We respectfully urge the Bellevue School District to reconsider this decision and lift the ban. Coolmathgames.com  enhances our education while also providing a well-deserved, constructive break during school hours.

Please sign this petition to support the restoration of Coolmathgames.com  in our district. Let's keep learning fun, accessible, and engaging for all students.

Thanks for your message, and for bringing to my attention the ban on CoolMathGames.com as well as the student petition to restore access to this website. While the school board sets broad policies for how to use school district resources, including computers and internet filters, the specific websites that are filtered is managed by the staff at the Bellevue School District. The school board policy that guides internet use is: 6800.4P: Internet Filters | Policy and Procedure Details. Adoption Date: Sept. 2014 Last Revised: Aug. 2022 www.bsd405.org I suspect that Coolmathgames.com has become selectively blocked under this policy. While coolmathgames.com includes some educational games, it also includes some non-educational games that may be seen as inappropriate for use at school. The site markets itself as providing access to more than "2,500 games." I wonder if there are specific games on that site that you are requesting access to? I also wonder if there are certain games on that site that have no educational value that are triggering it being added to the 'blocked' list?
