As you've probably heard by now, Turkey and Syria were hit by an earthquake last Monday, February 6th.

There were a lot of casualties and extended destruction of buildings and infrastructure. There are people still stuck under the rubble as you read this story. This petition shines a light on the situation in Syria.

Syria has no electricity, no heating, a shortage of food and water, and a lack of medicine. Has suffered a decade-long war, and has been suffering from a dire economic situation for the past 5 years. This collapsed economy has led to extreme poverty. With 90% of the population living below the poverty line. And now a devastating earthquake with a shortage of rescue and medical teams.

The Syrian people cannot keep up anymore. Most of the problems mentioned above, especially the economic ones, can be attributed to the current sanctions imposed on Syria by the US and Europe. Those sanctions have not served their intended purpose. On the contrary, they have only caused the innocent people of Syria much pain and suffering.

With this petition, we are saying enough is enough. It is time to lift the sanctions and allow the Syrian people to breathe. Allow them to rebuild and thrive after a terrible war.

Add your voice to mine. And let us all demand the ending of this injustice. This petition will be addressed to the United Nations, the European Commission, and the responsible authorities in the United States of America.
