Liberty Mutual: Stop denying my brother the treatment needed so he can work again
The Issue
Over a year ago my brother, Doyle, injured his back on-the-job while lifting a heavy granite counter top and boxes of heavy tiles. The pain was intense and he hoped it would pass - some aspirin and not overdoing it at work. It soon became clear he had hurt himself worse than he thought and would need medical treatment. While missing work and the pain were horrible, he at least had the security of knowing he had insurance and workers compensation. But as he was shuffled around from doctor to doctor, it became clear his insurance, Liberty Mutual, was not going to be there for him. As the doctors recommended treatments, they would deny them. One by one, Liberty Mutual declined to pay for what was being recommended to get my brother back on his feet and to work. Without the needed treatment and only a stack of denials, he soon found himself without a job and workers compensation.
Insurance is suppose to be there when you need it most. Doyle needs it now more than ever. We are asking Liberty Mutual to approve the treatments recommended by his doctors immediately. Live up to the promise of security and help my brother get back on his feet.
My brother has always been a hard worker, never one to try to take advantage of an undeserved benefit. In fact, during this ordeal there was a moment of desperation when my Brother offered to pay for the medical treatment himself. He just wanted to get better. Each Doctor that he contacted stated that since he was on worker’s compensation it was against the law for them to treat him without Liberty Mutual approving the treatment. Liberty Mutual still refused to approve the treatment.
Throughout this experience, Liberty Mutual has victimize my brother. Further injury and financial hardships have occurred that could have been prevented if they had approved what the doctors recommended. This should not be allowed to continue happen. Here are just some examples of how my brother was treated throughout this ordeal:
1. Adjustors not returning phone calls or emails, delaying the processing of claims.
2. Adjustors saying they have never received claims that have been submitted over and over again.
3. Adjustors falsify information from Physician Statements to deny approval of claims.
4. Changing adjustors frequently - each time requiring claims and all other required documentation be submitted all over again.
6. Adjustors change doctors over and over again to delay providing medical benefits and in an attempt to get a Doctor to state that the person is not injured.
Since they could get no doctors to state Doyle was NOT injured, Liberty Mutual hired a retired doctor who had not practiced in many years to sign a statement that he was not injured. The doctor never even examined Doyle. As a result Doyle was dropped from Workman's Comp, is too injured to work, and now has no income.
Doyle’s back has continued to get worse. He now cannot lift his left leg and has to drag his leg when he walks. He is in constant pain all the time. He is not a lazy person looking for a free ride. He just wants the medical treatment that he is qualified for and entitled to so he can get well.
I am an avid supporter of Change.org and have participated in many petitions. I have read the wonderful miracles that have been accomplished through supporters coming together to help people in need and ensure justice. I hope you can find it in your heart to sign this petition to request that Doyle’s Workman’s Comp be restored, and that Liberty Mutual be required to provide the medical treatment that he is entitled to so he can go back to work. He has been through a terrible ordeal and has nowhere else to turn to for help.
