Liberate Hindu Temples from Government Control

Liberate Hindu Temples from Government Control
The Issue
I am a proud Hindu, and it dismays me to see our temples under centralized government control. Unlike other religious institutions that maintain autonomy over their finances and functionality, Hindu temples find themselves an exception. The revenue generated from these temples often diverts to causes not related to the faith. This type of discriminatory activity infringes on our religious freedom and equality.
In India, as of 2020, approximately 4 lakh Hindu temples are under the control of different state governments. The management and financial affairs of these temples are governed by government-appointed bureaucrats, not by the community or religious leaders (source: Swarajya Magazine, 2020).
This state of affairs neglects the fundamental right to manage religious affairs independently, guaranteed under Article 26 and 27 of the Indian Constitution. We firmly believe religion should not be under political control in any circumstance, as it potentially threatens the core values of democracy and secularism.
We call on the state and central government to liberate Hindu temples from government control, and urge for autonomy and self-regulation to be given back to the people. We ask that our sacred places be returned to our care, and our contributions applied solely to the devout and dedicated causes of our faith. Sign this petition to stand in solidarity with millions of Hindus across the globe, who seek equal rights and freedom in the expression of their faith.
