Dear friends of Sea-Eye,
A tragic night lies behind us.
The crew of the SEA-EYE 4 was able to rescue 109 people from distress at sea in two rescue operations. Nevertheless, we are deeply dismayed, because for two people our help came too late. The crew could only recover their bodies. One of the two people who died was a young mother. She leaves behind a baby, which is being cared for aboard SEA-EYE 4. Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased!
Of the survivors, numerous people required medical attention at the onboard hospital. One person was evacuated by rescue helicopter by the Maltese authorities due to severe hypothermia. A detailed report on the rescue operations can be found here.
Yours, Gorden Isler
- Chairman of Sea-Eye e. V.
