Advance curriculum education (not enrichment) for Lexington students!

Advance curriculum education (not enrichment) for Lexington students!
The Issue
On Mar 13, Lexington Public Schools (LPS) closed in doing their part to stem the COVID-19 pandemic. On Mar 23, the Superintendent announced that on Mar 30 they will commence enrichment activities and/or reinforcement of what has been taught up until school closure ("LPS Distant Learning Plan"). The curriculum would not be continued! New skills and content would not be taught! On Mar 26, Commissioner Riley issued state guidance which allowed districts to begin advancing curriculum and since then many schools updated their remote learning plans to include new instruction, however, Lexington has not!
Under these unprecedented circumstances, when schools may be closed for months, we (parents, teachers, union, Administration) all need to band together and collaborate to ensure the children continue to be educated as best as possible without endangering anyone's lives. The full curriculum may not be expected to be taught and kids may not be expected to complete the same amount of coursework with the same rigor. But the Administration's directives of "no continuation of the curriculum" does not allow the teachers the flexibility to design the materials they want to properly educate our kids. Remove this cap on the content restrictions on the teachers. LPS is not an enrichment program. Distant learning doesn't mean enrichment. Don't give up on education! Other schools have not! - Belmont, Winchester, Newton, Needham, Wayland, Watertown, Braintree, Harvard, Westford, Weston, among many others.
Please sign this petition and separately ask the Lexington Administration (jhackett@lexingtonma.org) and School Committee (school-com@lexingtonma.org). Please refrain from posting any comments on this site to ensure the success of the message and intent. Please forward this petition to other Lexington residents.
