Save Edmund Waller School!

This petition had 705 supporters

We're parents of kids at Edmund Waller Primary School, and long time residents of Lewisham.

We hope that you might share our concerns - and sign our petition - whether you are a parent or not.

This December, Lewisham Council will make a decision about the school which will have a permanent impact on future generations of our kids.

We love our kids and love the borough - but new plans to double the size of Edmund Waller will hit both hard.

The proposals won't fix Lewisham's shortage of primary places - and will damage the school forever. It will be an expensive disaster for kids in Lewisham.

The council is proposing to spend millions of pounds doubling the school's intake to around 850.

We believe this is far too big - and will damage an already undersubscribed school.

It will also divert the council's limited budget away from other schools that desperately want to expand.

Lewisham's problem - our problem - is the shortage of Primary School places where they're really needed.

In fact this year some new Waller parents live on the other side of the borough - and they're forced to drive over 3km to get their kids to school.

We don't think this is okay.

Edmund Waller is already undersubscribed.  Doubling it will just make the situation worse for everybody.  It will create more unwanted and unfilled places.

And - any unfilled places cost schools money. A school that is only 80% full is only 80% funded.

Which means less money on teachers. Less money on our children's education.

And this plan will effectively halve our kids school's outdoor playspace - when we all know how essential it is for them to be able to run around.

So please join us in calling on Lewisham council to scrap the planned expansion, and Save Edmund Waller.

Thank You!
