Finally after so many months following the update meeting with NParks, a meeting on site was scheduled on 21 August to discuss the replacement of the canvas.
A mock up by NParks had been set up prior to the meeting. The caregivers had also prepared a proposal on a modular barrier which took into consideration the site and weather conditions.
We had also prepared a long list of considerations and requests. During the meeting, almost every of our requests and proposal was turned down. We had specially told NParks to start replacing the canvas from a specific location inside the park so as to minimise disturbance to the Bidadari dogs and to prevent them from being stuck outside their hideout. We had also told NParks not to seal the bottom of the canvas at a small stretch so the dogs can get back inside their hideout if they are stuck outside.
We received an email at noon on 29 August informing us that the replacement works that day.
❌ NONE OF THE REQUESTS WERE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION!
The only thing that was partially taken into consideration was the placement of the lowest strut at a small stretch (not the exactly the stretch we told them!) was not at the ground level but about 300mm from the ground!!!
How do they expect a standard Singapore Special to crawl under? Not to mention our Bidadari dogs are very senior! The dogs will be terrified if they realise they cannot get back inside their hideout to the feeding spot and their hideout. 300mm is the distance from the ground to their elbow, at most. How can anyone even think this is sufficient for the dogs to pass through? Their bodies will have to brush against the metal strut and this may cause them injuries.
This is causing the dogs unnecessary stress and suffering! Isn’t this 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗲 in a way?
Why bother to meet us to ask for our feedback if NParks refused to listen? Is NParks genuinely concerned about the welfare of our Bidadari dogs?
