The Issue

🧾 Short Summary

Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff was sentenced to life after his lawyer, David Ruhnke, waived his right to testify against his will. Now, Supreme is fighting for the chance to tell his story and prove his innocence — and to expose the corruption that helped convict him.

📄 Body

Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff — founder of the legendary Supreme Team — was sentenced to life in prison in 2007 after being convicted of murder conspiracy, drug trafficking, and racketeering.

But what most people don’t know is this: his own lawyer, David Ruhnke, waived his right to testify against his will.

That decision silenced McGriff forever in the eyes of the court. He was never given a chance to speak in his own defense — a direct violation of his constitutional right to testify.

In his 2025 documentary, The Supreme Truth, McGriff lays out the full story — from growing up in Queens under systemic targeting, to federal prosecutors using his name and image as evidence, to a justice system that needed a villain more than it wanted truth.

He calls it “The Bad Guy Rule.”

When you walk into court with a name like his, they don’t need proof — just perception.

🚨 The Truth They Buried

McGriff argues that if he had been allowed to testify, the jury would have learned the truth about star witness Terence Terrell — the man whose testimony was used to build the federal RICO case against him.

According to McGriff, Terrell fabricated the entire enterprise, falsely portraying himself as part of a criminal organization that McGriff supposedly led. In reality, McGriff says he never met Terrell, and the story Terrell told on the stand was manufactured and coached by NYPD Detective William Courtney, the same detective McGriff accuses of engineering his conviction through lies, intimidation, and manipulation of witnesses.

As McGriff wrote from federal custody:

“My testimony to the jury wouldn’t just create doubt — it would have proven that I never met the star witness, Terence Terrell. That alone shows I was not the head of any RICO enterprise. The jury needed to hear my voice.”

“They made a name into a narrative — and a man into a myth. Now, I’m setting the record straight.” — Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff

⚖️ The Demand

We, the undersigned, call on:

 • The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and

 • The Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General to review Kenneth McGriff’s conviction and grant him a new trial on the grounds that his constitutional right to testify was denied when attorney David Ruhnke unlawfully waived that right.

We further call for an independent review of the actions of Detective William Courtney and the reliability of testimony obtained through his investigation.

This case deserves to be re-examined in full — every affidavit, every procedural misstep, and every silenced word brought to light.

🧩 Why It Matters

Supreme’s case isn’t just about one man.

It’s about every defendant whose story gets rewritten by the system before they can tell it themselves.

If a man can be sentenced to life without ever speaking in his own defense — based on a story built by corrupt investigation and false testimony — how many others have been buried by the same silence?

This petition isn’t about sympathy. It’s about fairness, accountability, and the right to be heard.

🧱 The Family Legacy Lives On

Today, his nephew Prince Miller continues to carry that legacy forward — mentoring youth, creating art, and using his platform to break the cycle of violence and prove what a second chance can provide.

As McGriff himself wrote:

“Prince is proving through action what a second chance can provide — through positivity and helping to guide the youth away from the cycle of street violence.”
