You don't get to pick and choose who gets help!
The Issue
As a resident of Worcester for 25 years, I have witnessed and experienced the housing atrocities incurred while trying to acquire housing, during which time other issues that could've been prevented by having a home, arose. Since 2010, I was unable and am still unable to attain housing, emergent or regular in Worcester, Ma. I know many people who were turned away after filling paperwork and applications, and completed them; once they move in, the payment isn't paid or some discrepancy incurs, and they are left to start over, and homeless. I believe these organizations are discriminatory and negligent, and may be commandeering, embezzling, or misallocating funds, and something needs to be done. The law is law.
Many of these organizations received the grant funding (especially during COVID-19), and clients fill out applications, but never recieved the allocated funds. Numerous people I have spoken with, who've filled out forms for these state and federal funds, are in fact intersectionally marginalized. So many factors of negligence come into play on this topic.
I personally, am 35, low income, legally disabled, and BLACK. I have found there's minimal (if any) support for Afro American women, veterans, the disabled, and/or for the homeless, when it comes to this matter. They are quite literally thrown away. Gentrification ensures no space for these individuals, and shelters are being closed or are at max capacity, leaving no room for the elephant. This is OUR community, so we have an obligation to care for it.
The elephant IS the homeless population. The issue IS the housing authorities (RCAP Solutions, Central Mass Housing Alliance, and Worcester Housing Authority, among others) and their choosing to house who they want, and NOT whom needs the services. This negligence to house the homeless, or domestically violated, or low income, or the black community, is ILLEGAL and UNJUST.
Stand with me for the complete housing sector of Worcester to be audited, and brought to justice as these laws were implemented for ALL of OUR RIGHTS!
I ask, as a resident of WORCESTER MASSACHUSETTS, FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF THE ABOVE LISTED ORGANIZATIONS AND PROGRAMS. The numbers I see when reading the news, are the numbers of applications put in. Not the amount of housed families. Let that sink in for a minute.
I believe ALL Worcester residents should have a home. Especially during COVID-19! We weren't given that. Behind the alleged lost records, predispositions, and dismissive behaviors of the staff of these programs, is hope. And until we get there, I will continue this petition. Please, spread the word!
According to Worcester's housing district, Home is NOT where the heart is. I beg to differ.
I call to order ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY(IES), ENTITY(IES), OR ORGANIZATION(S), TO PERFORM AUDITS AND A DEEP INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER, AND SOLVE THIS IMPERATIVE YET SOLVABLE ISSUE.
Sincerely,
One Grace Pleasant
