Let's Spell "Of" as "Ov"!

The Issue

Goal

Get "ov" recognized as a spelling variation ov "of" – and potentially replace "of".

Who is affected?

Everyone who reads and/or writes English is affected by this dilemma.

Motivation

The English word "of" is pronounced like "ov", but uses an F instead ov a V, which  -could-  be confusing, especially because words like "off" make the sound ov an F, so you would assume "of" does as well.

Additionally, the Swedish language – as recently as within the last one-hundred some years – changed the spelling ov its word "af", which translates to English "of", to "av".
Why did they change it?    Because "af" – similar in nature to English "of" – was pronounced like "av",  and there was no indication to pronounce the F like a V.

Pros

  • The word's spelling matches the way it said, thus making its spelling clearer – this also means it's easier to memorize, which is good for people learning the language.
  • Promotes evolution ov the English language, which has stood pretty still for a while.
  • Some people – excluding myself – have already adopted "ov" into their vocabulary, so it  -can-  be understood.

Cons

  • People who are used to writing "of" will have to adjust to writing "ov" – which is even more difficult to stop when writing with a keyboard.
  • Newer prints ov old(er) media will have to change all instances ov "of" – but only if they really want to keep up, as no one is making them do it.

Conclusion

Not only does "ov" more accurately reflect the pronunciation ov the word, but the idea for this change is supported by the fact that another language has done the same thing already.

Even if "of" is not outright replaced, "ov" should still at least be considered an acceptable alternative spelling ov "of" – and I'm not the only one that thinks so either.
