J.K. Rowling created a magical world that has shaped the hearts and minds of millions. The characters she brought to life are not just fictional — they are part of a shared cultural legacy, and for many of us, a PART OF WHO WE ARE.

We are deeply concerned by HBO’s decision to alter the race and skin color of one of the central characters in the upcoming Harry Potter adaptation. Such a move — along with any changes to the gender or sexual orientation of established canon characters — risks undermining the structural integrity of the original narrative and the coherence of the world J.K. Rowling created.

These changes are not respectful tributes — they are rewrites that distort the original story, insert unrelated plotlines and conflicts, and ultimately just exploit the franchise for commercial gain.  It’s a wrong way.

This is not an act of inclusion — it’s an act of erasure. It shows a lack of respect for both the fans and the story’s creator. It is outrageous, and we cannot remain silent.

This petition is not motivated by hate. We have no objections to actor Paapa Essiedu — he is talented and deserving of great roles. But this is not about an individual. It’s about the integrity of the story and the legacy of J.K. Rowling. We stand for preserving the original characters as they were written — because this story really matters to us. Because IT’S A PART OF OUR IDENTITY.
