The Iona “Waste Water” treatment Plant in Vancouver, BC will not meet the Federal government 2030 regulation deadline and they want a 2034 extension for only an inadequate Secondary type treatment. They say it would then be another 8 years to 2042 for full Tertiary treatment levels.

The cost now for only Secondary is up from $1.9 billion to $10.4 billion. If they wait until 2042 for the full protection of Tertiary the costs will be extremely higher as compared to doing it right now. Further, if not Tertiary the increasing human population will continue to pollute fragile ecosystems.  The present endangered salmon and orcas may not survive!

Tertiary is presently not a Government requirement. So there are no regulations in Canada for the removal of deadly pollutants of known threats including microplastics and pharmaceuticals.

Wildlife continues to live in harmful, polluted waters. Stopping the growing pollution and increasing costs to do so is one of the major issues facing cities worldwide. The necessary upgrades could take over 15 years if not mandated now. Contaminants such as PCBs, DDT, PFOS, PFOA, copper, phthalates, bisphenols, pesticides, microplastics and pharmaceuticals would continue to be dumped into the rivers and oceans!

To Save People, Wildlife and Ecosytems All Must Support Mandating Tertiary Sewage Treatment!
