This is something I am a strong advocate for. You hear daily about young girls going missing and human trafficking. It seems to me like it's worse now than it ever has been! I would really like to see the legal age to purchase pepper spray reduced to 16. That's the age when people start driving. That's the age where most girls start going places by themselves. That's the age that most start working. Not to mention, that's also the age most perpetrators prey on. I remember when I was 16 and got my first job, I would get off super late from work and had to walk quite a ways to my car in the dark, I was terrified. And yes, I realize that a parent could buy one for their child, but not everybody has that option! I had to get an older friend of mine to purchase one for me because I was so scared of walking to my car at night. Pepper spray is a safe self defense mechanism that just stuns your attacker long enough for a young woman to get to a safe place. This small little change could potentially save a lot of lives.
