Let's finish what we started! (ammend IN law to protect victims of drugged driving)
The Issue
On November 4, 2024, our 16 year old son Mitchell Sterling was tragically killed in a traffic accident. There were obvious signs that the driver’s reaction time was altered, but no drug test was performed - Indiana law did not require it. This glaring oversight has left our family without answers and without justice for our son.
Shortly after Mitchell's accident, we began our mission to change this outdated law to mandate blood testing when there is a fatality or serious bodily injury. Our work has paid off! On July 1, 2026, blood tests became mandatory when a traffic accident causes a fatality in Indiana HEA 1249.
While this is a huge victory, it still does not protect us from all car accidents caused by drugged drivers - those that cause life altering serious bodily injuries.
Drugs are more accessible than ever, and drug use continues to rise. Drugged drivers are plaguing our roads and putting lives at risk. So why is it still only mandatory to test drivers for alcohol when these accidents occur?
Help make our voice louder by demanding that this new law include mandatory blood testing for serious bodily injury victims.
We are aiming for 10,000+ signatures and we need your HELP. Please sign and forward.
Thank you!
