Let's Change Mental Health Awareness Month to Emotional & Mental Health Awareness Month

The Issue

As a Transformational Life Coach & Counselor, I have dedicated my life to helping others navigate through many challenges, including emotional traumas. My practice focuses on both childhood & adult emotional trauma recovery and transition. I have experienced some personal traumatic experiences (including the death of my husband) that required me to heal emotionally, leading me to focus deeper on this specific niche within my practice. Many of my clients and loved ones have unresolved emotional traumas that haven't been dealt with, highlighting the need for greater awareness of and care for emotional well-being.

Emotional health is distinct from mental health, yet it is often overlooked or misunderstood. I look at mental & emotional health as conjoined twins that share a brain or a heart.  They cannot be seperated.  One cannot thrive without the other.  The needs of one cannot be addressed without impacting or addressing the needs of the other.  As much as they are joined together they are not one in the same.  Equal qualitative care and attention should be given to each.

Many people exclude themselves from the need for mental health care because they perceive it as only necessary for those who are "crazy" or have something wrong with them mentally.  However, we all experience emotions and emotional responses - no one is exempt.  We could all benefit from being educated on the disparities of mental & emotional health.  With this focus, perhaps we can have self-care services/tools like Yoga, Massage & Mediation, etc. covered by insurance, thereby making available care accessible to everyone.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 264 million people worldwide suffer from depression alone – a clear indication of how widespread issues related to our emotions are. Yet there's no designated period focused solely on raising awareness about our emotional well-being.

Therefore, we propose establishing a separate month dedicated to Emotional Health (Well-Being) Awareness. This would encourage more individuals to seek help when needed and promote understanding that caring for our emotions, as well as our minds, is just as important as caring for our physical bodies.

Please sign this petition if you believe in promoting better understanding and care towards our emotional well-being. Together we can make "Emotional & Mental Health Awareness Month" a reality!
