Let Parkway School District high school teachers keep their plan time!
Let Parkway School District high school teachers keep their plan time!
The Issue
Parkway School District has announced a "non-negotiable" cut to high school teachers' plan time. This cut will begin with 90 minutes a week but will eventually become 135 minutes a week. This is time teachers dedicate to creating engaging lessons and planning for after-school activities/clubs. A drastic cut to plan time will turn your best teachers into mediocre ones, simply because they are overworked and have a lack of time to strive beyond the norm. Students will not receive as much grading feedback and overall their learning experience will suffer due to rushed lessons and assignments. Along with this, teachers will no longer have time to sponsor after-school activities which are some students' only time to be creative and make meaningful connections with peers and teachers. A cut of activity options also influences students' futures as it would be nearly impossible to get into selective colleges without a thorough resume that includes a diverse list of activities. This sets very strict limitations on Parkway students on what colleges they can get into, what job interviews they may get, and how valuable they may be after their time with Parkway. Teachers will also not have as much time for after-school help, which many students use as a resource in order to improve their grades and knowledge. We want to ensure that students are best prepared for the future and leave Parkway with a developed education. These things will never be possible with a cut to teachers' plan time. Since Parkway will not listen to our teachers we must help give them a voice by signing this petition. *NO TEACHERS WERE INVOLVED IN THE STARTUP OF THIS PETITION*
