The Issue

My name is Kit Tailor. I’ve lived in Scotland for nearly five years, building a quiet, meaningful life while facing serious physical and mental health challenges. I live with complex conditions including PTSD, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), POTS, and MCAS. These affect my daily functioning and safety. Despite these barriers, I’ve devoted my time to helping others, volunteering with animal welfare and education charities, even while navigating poverty and instability.

My support animal, Bu, the caique parrot, is more than just a pet; he is my companion and emotional lifeline. Bu helps me cope with the overwhelming symptoms of PTSD and chronic illness. He’s also become a joyful presence in the wider community: we regularly walk together, and many of you have stopped us in parks, on the street, or in cafés to take photos, ask questions, or simply smile. Bu has his own social media following and has helped me stay connected to others during incredibly isolating times.

Despite this, I am now at risk of being removed from the UK. As a refused asylum seeker from the US, a country deemed automatically “safe” by UK immigration rules, my case was dismissed without full consideration of the personal risks I face if returned. I have no safe family, no community, and no access to medical care there. Removal would likely result in homelessness, loss of essential treatment, and an extremely high risk of suicide.

I am applying for discretionary leave to remain under Article 3 and Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, based on medical vulnerability and my private life here in the UK. But this decision is now in the hands of the Home Office, and community voices can make a difference.

If Bu and I have ever brought a smile to your day, or if you believe that people like me, who contribute, who care, and who find connection through compassion, should be able to stay, please sign this petition or leave a message of support.

Your support isn’t just political—it’s personal. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
