Let Families Inherit State Pension Contributions — Our Money, Our Right

Let Families Inherit State Pension Contributions — Our Money, Our Right
The Issue
Every month, millions of UK workers pay National Insurance and pension contributions, trusting that we’ll one day receive a state pension. But if someone dies before reaching retirement age — after paying into the system for 30, 40, or even 45 years — that money is lost, and their family receives nothing.
We don’t want more. Just what’s ours.
The system is designed so that pension contributions are hidden inside National Insurance payments — not shown clearly on your payslip — making it easy to forget that this is your money.
This is deeply unfair.
Why should early death mean free money for the state?
Families lose everything, while the government keeps the full amount paid in over decades. This isn’t just financially wrong — it’s morally wrong.
Unlike private pensions, where unused funds can be inherited by children or spouses, the current UK state pension model does not allow families to inherit the pension contributions of a loved one who dies before retirement.
If the government spends our pension money instead of saving it — how can we trust it’ll be there when we retire? There’s no personal account, no clear record, and no guarantee. We are forced to rely on future governments to keep promises made today. This is not real security — it’s a gamble with our life savings.
We need a new system — one that works for today, not 1948.
And even if you’re seriously ill, the system shows no mercy.
If you get a life-limiting illness at 60, you still have to wait until 68 to access your pension — even though you may not live that long. That’s not support — it’s cruelty.
We are calling for change.
We demand:
That state pension contributions be treated as personal property, not just a tax.
That families inherit pension contributions when someone dies before retirement.
That workers be given full transparency and access to view their lifetime contributions.
That individuals be allowed to access their own pension funds from age 60, not forced to wait until 68 or later.
🌍 This system already works in other countries
This is not just a dream — it’s already happening:
In Chile, every worker has a personal pension account. If they die, the remaining balance is fully inheritable by their family.
In Australia, the Superannuation system works the same way — retirement funds belong to the worker, and if they die, the money can be passed on to heirs.
If they can do it — why can’t we?
We demand a mixed pension model in the UK:
Part of our contributions go to support the public system.
Part goes into a personal, inheritable account — our money, for our future, or our family’s future if we pass before retirement.
We are calling for a modern, fair pension model — where your contributions truly belong to you or your loved ones.
We work. We contribute. We deserve fairness.
Sign this petition if you agree that our pension contributions should belong to us — and our families — not disappear into the system.
