Let Dad Stay With Baby and Mommy

The Issue

At Zelazna Hospital in Warsaw, Poland, dads are not allowed to stay overnight with mommy and baby.

The family is required to get a private room.

Before my daughter was born, we requested a private room but none were available after birth.

So based on hospital policy, I had to leave my wife and newborn alone.

Their midwife service was terrible during this time.

They failed at the most important thing - figuring out that my wife was not able to breastfeed (most likely due to high stress and  cortisol).

My wife and baby were both crying all night long. My wife could not even free her hands to make a call or go to the bathroom.

After an official psychology assessment for her mental health, the psychologist recommended that we get a private room. She even recommended this to the midwives.

The psychologist told my wife that it would be helpful if I went and urged them for the private room.

This motivated me to take action (which I should’ve done earlier).

I spoke to 8 different midwives + students about this.

It was a typical (rude, cold) response that there are no rooms available. I literally felt like I was talking to a robot each time. Zero empathy or care in their eyes - and these are women who are incharge of the most important thing - childbirth.

I swear to god - I was treated like I was some low class garbage of society. No respect whatsoever.

I fortunately found out who was incharge of the policy and tried to speak to him. They said I need an appointment and they had me speak to someone else - Aleksandra.

I literally begged her to get me a private room. I told her the brutal truth. She listened patiently, then spoke to the midwives and got us the private room.

Now get this - when I thanked one of the midwives about the private room, she said “dont thank me someone just canceled so you’re getting that room.”

IMAGINE THE COINCIDENCE.

all of the sudden someone cancelled at the exact moment when Aleksandra was telling them about the seriousness of my wife’s mental health.

oh by the way, my baby had lost more than 10% of her birthweight (major concern - they made us wait an additional two days because of this)

but DESPITE the baby losing so much weight, they were STILL refusing to let me stay the night so I can support my family.

what zelazna hospital did goes directly against Article 34 of the Act on Patients' Rights and the Patient Ombudsman,
Article 20 of the Code of Medical Ethics, and Article 47 of the Constitution.

We need to change the hospital policy.

Husbands MUST be allowed to stay with the wife - PERIOD… 24/7

Right now they are SO GREEDY FOR MONEY that they will separate families for it.

Just so they get the $270 per night and have people begging for it like some exclusive night club entrance.

please sign the petition and show your support.

P.S. dads are only allowed 12 pm to 6 pm which is not enough - my wife was exhausted after a 12 hour labor + we had a big baby (92 percentile).

she didn’t even have enough energy to reach for her phone and tell me what to bring.

she was counting the hours until I would come… meanwhile I was stuck at home unable to do anything.
