This matter is moving forward and the coming 7 days or so will see further developments. Updates will be issued as appropriate. In the meantime, some points have been raised which require clarification. A gentleman named Jeremy Holtom, who is a known activist and has been at the forefront of some high profile campaigns, became aware of Bob’s situation and took it upon himself to approach the situation in his own style. He contacted the Management of Mead Medical suggesting that his 80 year old father had chosen Burnfoot Hall as his preferred home. He then had a conversation with a last identified as Julie. Exactly who Julie is remains unclear, although she holds a senior managerial position within Mead Medical. Julie States that Darkie the dog has become out of control, howls and whined constantly, is not exercised and has become a hazard. She goes on to start that there has never been any suggestion that Darkie must be removed from the home by 14th February 2017, that there is no threat to evict Bob and that there are many lies being out on social media. In a telephone conversation which I personally had with Michael Best, Managing Director of Mead Medical in early January he told me that Darkie is our of control, is a trip hazard and a health and safety risk. These comments and more were repeated by Mr. Best in each of the limited press responses which he has issued. But there are two sides to every story and it is quite right and proper that Mead Medical should be given the opportunity to put their own points across. Similarly it is also best to examine the verifiable facts. The Care Inspectorate is the body with responsibility for monitoring Care Homes in Scotland. They carried out an inspection on with September 2015. They noted that Burnfoot Hall has a policy in place which encourages residents to bring their pets into the Home as part of their daily support. The 70 page report goes on to comment that the Home does not have a detailed risk assessment on place should pets access communal areas within the Home. At page 37 of the same report, the inspector recommends that this be addressed. On 11th September 2016 the Inspectorate made a further unannounced visit. The 37 page report notes that a risk assessment is now in place at Burnfoot Hall and that there are no issues with pets in Residence. Yet, just weeks later, M.D. Michael Best announced that Darkie is aggressive and out of control, runs at visitors barking and messed all over the place and concludes that the dog must go. On 30th January 2017, solicitors appointed by Mead Medical Services Ltd wrote to Bob and repeated the unfounded allegations being made. The letter goes on to demand that Darkie be removed from Burnfoot Hall by no later than 14th February 2017, failing which, they will act to terminate Bob’s Tenancy. On 20th February 2017 the same solicitors wrote to Bob again to state that, as he had failed to comply [by not getting rid of his dog] his Tenancy is being formally terminated and Bob must vacate the Home by no later than 19th April 2017 or face eviction. So yes, lies are being told and repeated on social media – but who is telling the lies? In order to fully appreciate the truth behind all this, it is necessary for readers to view several clips which are now widely available on YouTube Before identifying the links, I would point out that 2 of the available clips include some quite colourful language, although this should be taken in contact https://youtu.be/eQWEDfbUpeQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRjPsd6ArvM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0en4zhFJOTQ&t=184s The BBC World Service are finishing off an article on this story which will be posted online within the next 24 hours or so. We will keep everyone updated. On 6th March 2017 I invited Dr. David Mead, founder and CEO of Mead Medical Holdings/Services Ltd to engage with me directly to seek a solution, making it abundantly clear that, if he chooses not to do so the gloves are off.
