Let Afghan Students Study: Reverse the UK Student Visa Ban

The Issue

The UK Government is banning all Afghan student visa applications from 26 March 2026.

In 2025, only 355 Afghan students received UK visas. This represents just 0.07% of all student visas. Despite these minimal numbers, the Government claims this creates "unsustainable pressure."

Afghan women already cannot attend university under Taliban rule (banned since 2021). Now the UK is closing the door to education abroad. They face double exclusion: blocked from learning at home, blocked from studying abroad.

Students who have been accepted to UK universities now cannot get visas. Years of hard work, exam success, and dreams of education are being destroyed by bureaucracy.

This is unprecedented. Never before has a specific nationality been completely banned from UK student visa applications. The Government has published no evidence to justify this policy. No parliamentary debate has taken place. No vote has been held.

We call on the UK Government to reverse this ban before 26 March 2026 and restore fair, individual assessment of Afghan student visa applications.

Education is a right, not a privilege. These 355 students do not represent a crisis. They represent hope, ambition, and the fundamental human desire to learn.

The UK has always been a beacon of educational opportunity. We must not abandon the world's most vulnerable students now.

Sign this petition to tell the Government: Reverse the ban. Let Afghan students study.
