Due to Jakarta's severe pollution and overcrowding levels, Indonesian President Joko Widodo plans to relocate the country's capital to the island of Borneo. Borneo contains some of the oldest primary rainforests on Earth and is home to some of the world's most unique and biologically diverse animal life, flora and fauna. The forests of Borneo are already being decimated to pave the way for palm oil plantations, mining and farming. A third of Borneo's rainforests have been destroyed in just 3 decades. Orangutan population has declined by 50% in the last 60 years with 80% of their habitat lost. In the midst of a climate crisis, the rainforests of Borneo are a huge example of what we should be protecting and preserving on this planet. Imagine the catastrophic impact a capital city would have on this beautiful island? We need to stop President Widodo from going ahead with his plans to relocate the Indonesian capital to Borneo!
