LeMoyne Owen College, please keep the ORIGINAL student housing move-in date!
The Issue
LeMoyne-Owen College :
The Students are hurt. LeMoyne-Owen College has moved the Student housing date back all of a sudden from August 7th and August 8th to September 5th, 2020! We have no place to go. We were depending on you.
We as the students of LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) have experienced so many hardships. On July 22, 2020 LOC President & Board informed our Local News Stations that LeMoyne-Owen College would be doing Virtual Learning this year.
Guess who they didn't inform?
The Students. We the students did not receive any notification until July 24, 2020. Two days after it was announced on the Local News Stations.
Virtual Learning in this climate is appropriate, however, for weeks and months the school has been notifying us that those needing housing will be moving back on campus on August 7th and August 8th. We received an email on July 21, 2020 stating these dates and the procedures and processes that had been implemented due to COVID-19.
That all has quickly changed! Many of us have no where to go.
We have many students who are International Students and have made arrangements to fly back to move in on August 7th and August 8th. Now, they have a ticket they can't get reimbursed or changed.
titionMany of the students who are homeless and living from place to place had made arrangements to have a place to stay until August 7th and August 8th.
We have students who are going through family issues and so they have no place to stay as they had planned to be back on campus on August 7th and August 8th.
Lemoyne-Owen College (LOC) has moved the dates we can move in to September 5th, 2020!
Our SGA didn't even know about this until it was Breaking News on Local News.
Many of us who pay for school out of pocket have been working, we turned in two weeks notices thinking we were moving back on campus.
Many of us have already paid LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) to move in and so that additional money we don't have now to find a place to stay, a hotel to get, a floor to sleep on, or a family and or friend who would be so nice to allow us to stay with them for another month. We are struggling. So we are depending on LeMoyne-Owen College to correct this wrong.
LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) received an amazing 40 Million Dollar endowment recently and as of today we do not know the plans for this money, but we hope it can go to help the students. Especially now, as many of us who were planning to move back into Housing don't have anywhere to go.
Sign this petition today to help us request assistance from the LOC President & Board to keep the August 7th and August 8th move in date so that our success doesn't go in vein, and that we as students can have a place to go.
We are counting on our Leadership!
Signed,
The Students of LOC, LOC Alumni, Community Leaders and Student Supporters
