Give Us Home Care!

Give Us Home Care!
The Issue
Most seniors don’t want to end up in nursing homes. Over 90% of them fear going to a place where they have no privacy or control, where they are subjected to substandard, assembly-line care. What a dismal prospect!
That’s why so many older adults and their families are demanding home and community alternatives to nursing homes.
Seniors for Social Action Ontario (SSAO) speaks for those of us who will be most affected by bad public policy and enforcement in long term care: older adults and their families. We want affordable options which allow us to stay at home or in non-profit, family-sized homes staffed to provide the supports we need.
Close to friends and family, not in large, crowded, impersonal places where lack of care and COVID infections prematurely killed thousands of seniors!
As provincial and federal elections loom in Canada, SSAO invites citizens who share its concerns to help deliver an important message to elected representatives: our eldercare system is beyond "fixing" and requires fundamental reform!
We urgently need to create alternatives to it so that older adults are not stuck with another decade of unjustifiable and unnecessary mass institutionalization.
It’s time decision-makers started listening to us! By 2026, 10 million baby-boomers will dramatically change our country’s demographic profile. 1 in 3 Canadians will be looking after one another. Canada needs to become a more caring society among nations with more progressive eldercare policies.
We must speak forcefully to key decision-makers and tell them we are no longer satisfied with the status quo. We demand a basic shift in values, principles and programs for older adults. We need to create “spaces” for them, not "beds" since they already have them. We want direct funding for supports at home tailored to their individual needs.
Please sign this petition to strengthen SSAO's cause, and encourage others to do the same. And add your comments so we can share them with those who have the power to give us alternatives to LTC.
Demand real choices for seniors!
