Legalize the Use of Golf Carts on Public Roads in Southbury Connecticut

The Issue

Golf carts are very good modes of short distance travel and over all easy to use. However, these benefits are denied due to the fact that golf carts are not deemed street legal in our town - Southbury Connecticut. We are not alone. Many Connecticut residents own golf carts for personal use, and making them street legal would open up a new, eco-friendly method of transportation for short distances.

Golf carts are considered environmentally friendly because they are electric and produce no emissions. The Department of Energy states that electric vehicles, which include golf carts, can reduce emissions that contribute to climate change and smog, improving public health and reducing ecological damage. If more people could legally drive golf carts on the street, we could potentially reduce our state's carbon emissions and contribute positively to the environmental cause.

In addition to being environmentally friendly, golf carts are also cost-effective. and much cheaper than cars allowing younger adults who have less money to have an affordable mode of transportation, which could save Connecticut residents money particularly for short distances.

In many states like Georgia, Florida, and California, golf carts are street legal and have proven to enhance local communities without causing significant problems. There is no reason that Southbury residents shouldn't benefits from street legal golf carts.

Let us rally together to make golf carts street legal in Southbury. Through this petition, we aim to demonstrate the support for this cause to our state lawmakers. We urge them to reassess the current legislation surrounding golf cart usage, to pave the path for greener, more cost-effective local transportation. Please, join our petition and support street legal golf carts in Southbury.
