I am a resident of Hull, IA, USA, I would be overjoyed to own a pet. My preferences, due to personal reasons and family circumstances, are not for dogs or cats, but instead for chickens. My parents believe in teaching responsibility and sustainability through the mediums available to us and, in our case, that method is through raising chickens. 

Sadly, current local ordinances prohibit the possession of chickens within city limits. This not only restricts my parents' method of imparting valuable life lessons, but also prevents families from reaping benefits such as fresh eggs and natural pest control. According to the USDA, raising chickens provides educational benefits to children and contributes to local food security.

Raising chickens is environmentally friendly as well. Chickens naturally control pests and their waste can be composted into rich soil for gardening. This creates a healthy, sustainable cycle right at home.

Therefore, we call on the authorities of Hull, IA, USA, to reconsider the ordinance and legalize the possession of chickens within city limits. Making this adjustment to our local laws not only supports families like my own but also advocates for sustainable living and local food production.
