To the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and our community:

We are Fury Motorsports, your local powersports dealership, standing with the Fury Family: residents, riders, parents, and neighbors who care about safety on our streets, trails, and sidewalks.

THE ISSUE

High-power electric dirt bikes and similar machines (often sold or treated like “e-bikes”) end up on streets, sidewalks, and trails with underage riders, no gear, and no real licensing, registration, or insurance path. That is a real safety problem. The June 2026 low-powered scooter and off-highway vehicle ordinance correctly pushes back on that chaos with fines, impound, and clearer “not an e-bike” messaging.

A ban-and-fine approach alone is incomplete. It stops the illegal ride of the moment. It does not answer what a legal, accountable ride looks like. Definitions still blur e-moto (motorcycle-class) with OHV / UTV (side by side), while true Class 1–3 e-bikes need to stay cleanly separate. Dirt bikes can already earn street-legal status when done right. Responsible, equipped side by sides mostly cannot in Douglas County. Fine-only regimes cost enforcement time and do not build steady registration revenue.

WHAT WE SUPPORT

We support Douglas County work that will:

1. Keep true e-bikes (Class 1–3) clearly separate from motorcycles and OHVs so ordinary e-bike riders are not collateral damage.
2. Classify e-motos / e-dirt bikes correctly as motor-vehicle-class machines when they are not real e-bikes, with accountability (licensing, registration, insurance, equipment) rather than bicycle gray areas.
3. Create a street-legal path for responsible OHVs (including side by sides / UTVs and ATVs) that meet equipment, operator, insurance, and registration standards, similar in spirit to how a dirt bike can earn legal road use when done right.
4. Treat legalization as a safety tool: plates, lights, insurance, and age rules make enforcement clearer and roads safer than a permanent ban with no lawful option.
5. Recognize revenue for county and state from registration, related fees, and legitimate local business activity when owners can comply instead of only being ticketed.
6. Keep strong enforcement against reckless operation, underage misuse, eluding, and machines that skip the legal process.

THE ASK

We ask county leaders to engage the community, including local powersports businesses and riders, on a next-step framework for definitions and street-legal OHV use in Douglas County.

This petition is a show of community interest in Douglas County solutions, hosted by Fury Motorsports. It is not a statewide ballot initiative and does not replace any formal petition process that may require wet signatures under Colorado law later.
