I, like many others, am a firm believer in the right to personal safety. Navigating the world today requires more than just caution - it demands proactive steps to ensure security in one's own homes and streets. It is for this reason that we are advocating to legalize less lethal weapons under 100 joules of kinetic energy in all cities, and states across the country.

Less lethal weapons categorized within this energy range pose less risk of severe injury or fatality during use. They can act crucially as a deterrent, providing individuals with an effective form of self-defence without escalating a situation lethally. According to a report from the U.S. Department of Justice, less lethal weapons have been shown to decrease fatalities in situations where self-defence is required.

However, despite their potential to promote personal safety, many cities and states still have stringent restrictions or outright bans on these less lethal weapons. This not only inhibits our ability to protect ourselves, but it also could unintentionally raise risks by forcing people to rely on more lethal means of self-defence.
