The Issue

Having been a motorcycle mechanic for many years in multiple states, I've seen firsthand the devastating consequences of neglectful drivers comprising safety for motorcyclists. Many of my friends and customers have suffered severe injuries or, even worse, lost their lives to distracted drivers on the road. After experiencing the benefits of lane filtering living in Colorado, where motorcyclists can legally maneuver through slow or stopped traffic at low speed, I've witnessed how much safer this practice is.

Lane filtering allows motorcyclists to move through congested traffic at low speeds, under 15 mph, which significantly reduces the risk of accidents especially being rear ended. It also keeps you out of the middle of the huddle of congested traffic which also prevents any wrecks while moving at normal speeds in common riding situations. Unlike lane splitting, which involves higher speeds, sometimes being some-what reckless, lane filtering is a controlled maneuver designed to enhance road safety for motorcyclists in heavily congested traffic conditions.

Recently, I lost another friend who tragically passed away after moving back to Texas—a state where lane filtering remains illegal. This heartbreaking loss fuels my determination to bring about change at the state level. Making lane filtering legal in Texas this would not only save lives but also improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on our roads.

Motorcyclists deserve the right to safely navigate through heavy traffic without fearing for their lives waiting to be rear ended. Texas should follow the lead of other states that have enacted such laws successfully, leading to a safer environment for everyone on the road.

Please join me in urging Texas legislators to legalize lane filtering. By supporting this petition, we can work towards making Texas roads safer for motorcyclists, ultimately preventing further senseless tragedies. Together, let's advocate for a common-sense law change that will benefit everyone sharing the road. Sign this petition to protect the lives of motorcyclists and make our roads safer for all.
