Legalize Black and White License Plates in New Jersey

Legalize Black and White License Plates in New Jersey
The Issue
My name is Michael Caruso and I have been pulled over multiple times for having black and white license plates on my car, despite the numbers and letters accurately matching my registration. As an individual, this has been unsettling, sparking feelings of being victimized and unfairly treated. There are others like me in New Jersey, facing the same challenges, just because of the color of our license plates.
Black and white license plates are not only aesthetically refreshing but also add diversity to our roads. There are states such as California that have already legalized such plates. They are available to any motorist who wishes to have retro plates harking back to the 1960s. If other states recognize these plates, there's no reason New Jersey should lag behind.
There are no factual arguments that black and white license plates are less visible or readable than the colored ones. Research shows that the contrast between the black letters or numbers, and the white background, makes these plates tremendously easy to read, even at night or from a distance (NVCC, 2015).
In light of these facts, we must question why this color combination remains illegal in New Jersey. The rules have to change. By signing this petition, we demand that the New Jersey legislature address this oddity and allow citizens to use black and white license plates. Let's drive forward on the road to change! Please sign this petition today.
