The Issue

As a citizen of Ballwin Missouri, and a parent deeply invested in teaching my children the values of responsibility, caregiving and self-sufficiency, the prohibition of backyard chickens stands in our way. My children and I have long desired to live on a farm, but the affordability of land in today's economy has made this dream unobtainable. Our request is simple: legalize the ownership of up to 6 hens per 2/10s of an acre within the city limits of Ballwin. This is about permitting a little taste of country life within the county and the many benefits it brings.

Keeping chickens can aid in managing food supply as we've recently been facing constant shortages of eggs and escalating prices. Homegrown eggs are not only a cost-effective solution but also a sustainable one. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, one hen produces around 290 to 300 eggs per year suggesting the significant potential of a small home flock.

By altering the city's laws, we would also be instilling vital values in our children, demonstrating key elements of responsibility, teaching them how to care for life, and how to provide for themselves.

In this spirit, I ask you to support our call to legalize backyard chickens in Ballwin, Missouri. Let's embark on this journey towards self-sufficiency, sustainability, and a greener way of life. Sign the petition now!
