The Philippines is one of the few countries in the world where abortion remains illegal under all circumstances, even when a woman's life or health is at risk. This prohibition not only infringes on women’s rights to health, privacy, dignity and equality but also leads to approximately 1,000 deaths and 100,000 hospitalizations each year due to unsafe abortions (Guttmacher Institute). We believe it's time for a change. We call on lawmakers in the Philippines to reconsider their stance on this issue and legalize abortion as a matter of urgency.
