Legalising Electric Bikes in Adelaide
The issue
I strongly believe that conversion kit electric bikes are a big problem in our society today. People are constantly out causing property damage, harm to other human beings and much more. On the other hand, there are people who just want a different way of commuting to their different places without any of the damage or harm.
I think this electric bike system needs a change very fast, as the popularity of them are exploding right now, and there is too many of them for the police force to keep up with. This is why I thought of making a specialized license for these conversion kit electric bikes/electric dirt bikes which makes them legal on our roads under a set of certain rules to let kids and teens have their fun without the stress of getting their bikes impounded.
I believe that this needs action very soon as the amount of electric bikes out nowadays is insane and its way too much for police to keep up with. With this form of specialized license, there will still be the basics of license plates and registration, but cheaper than the normal motorbike. With this form of license, it lets police relax a bit and focus on more serious things as there are a lot more severe things going on that need more attention that they're getting.
This license should be mounted on the back of these electric bikes to show that they're legal to any passing by police officer. There should still be a reasonable amount and fairness of rules such as no property damage or harm to others, but should still let kids ride their bikes just like they want to. There will be a cost to get this specialized license just like any other motorbike license, but the cost should differ depending on the wattage of the bike.
There should still be some sort of license test just like when you're getting your car license, to show you understand basic road rules like right of way, speed limits, traffic lights and other stuff like that. If this is completed with enough correct questions, it should grant the rider permission to ride their electric bikes on our roads without any of the things like running from cops and drawing the police forces attention to that.
