Legalise the Sport of Airsoft in Australia

Legalise the Sport of Airsoft in Australia
The issue
My passion for Airsoft began early in life, fuelled by dreams of this captivating sport from America. My heart hopes for the competitive thrill, the tactfulness that this sport brings. Growing up, the sight of Airsoft guns as I watched those exhilarating games play out on foreign television channels. It's more than a hobby; it's an extension of who I am.
Yet, here in Australia, our laws forbid this sport. With this petition, my aim, our collective aim, should be to rectify that. Around the world, countries such as the UK, the US, and our Neighbor New Zealand, have embraced Airsoft and recognised it as a legitimate sport that encourages strategic thinking, fitness, and teamwork. In the UK, for instance, the British Airsoft Club has registered over 67,000 players, highlighting the popularity and demand for this sport (source: UK Ministers).
However, the Australian government considers Airsoft equipment as firearms, despite them being incapable of causing lethal harm. This harsh interpretation has hindered our ability to partake in a sport loved by many. We must advocate for proper regulations and legal frameworks that acknowledge Airsoft as a sport, not a criminal activity. It's time our government aligns itself with the progressive stance adopted by our international counterparts.
I also believe that even though it is thought at as to be seen as "Illegal", There are MANY other "dangerous or hostile such as PAINTBALL and GEL-SOFT. Which isn't fair since the average gel-ball diameter is around 7-8 mm and an airsoft is only 6mm, the legal amount. MORE SHOCKINGLY! the average PAINTBALL diameter is 17 Millimetres! I find these outragous because a gel-blaster actually "looks" like a gun and can "weigh" like a gun, however the Airsoft gun legally has a distinct orange mark on its tip showing that it is just a toy, not a real gun. Unlike gel blasters almost showing some to ZERO features showing that "it's a toy".
If we, the Australian Airsoft community, unite, our voices can break the silence surrounding this issue, pushing our government to rethink its stance on Airsoft. We urge you to sign this petition to help bring about change. Let Australia taste the exhilaration that this sport brings. SO, how about we stand together and tell the world that AUSTRALIA is not for WIMPS! and we are strong enough to open AIRSOFT to EVERYONE who SAYS no to common rules and takes the extra step to legalising AIRSOFT!
