Legalise Pepper Spray for Mothers' Self-Defense in the United Kingdom

Legalise Pepper Spray for Mothers' Self-Defense in the United Kingdom
The Issue
I fear for women and my children’s future in the United Kingdom, I make this urgent plea. With the increasing threats and risks associated with personal safety, it is becoming essential for mothers and any children’s services responsible for the safety of children to have access to effective self-defense tools such as pepper spray. However, current UK legislation does not allow them to carry it. I believe it's time for a change.
Over the years, the risk of personal attack in the UK has been rising, with the Office for National Statistics reporting 1.2 million violent crimes in England and Wales in 2019 alone (ONS, 2020). This poses a significant risk to the safety of every woman and child in the country. The ability for mothers to legally carry pepper spray as a means of self-defense and to protect their children could prove vital in the face of these incidents.
We believe that every mother has the right to defend herself and her children. Pepper spray has been widely recognized as a non-lethal tool of self-protection that could potentially provide the seconds needed for a woman and children to escape a dangerous situation and contact law enforcement.
For the safety of all mothers and our children’s future in the United Kingdom, we implore you to consider this petition. Review the legislation that currently prevents the carrying of pepper spray for self-defense purposes. Please help us make the UK a safer place for everyone. Sign this petition and add your voice to our urgent call for change.
