As a concerned citizen, I am deeply troubled by the escalating crime rates in our country. Home invasions, stabbings and other horrific crimes against law-abiding citizens have reached alarming levels. We have a fundamental right to protect ourselves and our loved ones in non-lethal ways. This is why I am calling for the legalisation of non-lethal personal protection items such as pepper spray and tasers.

These tools can serve as effective deterrents against potential criminals, potentially saving lives without causing permanent harm. According to a study conducted by the National Institute of Justice in the United States, where these items are legalised, they were found to reduce injury rates for both the users of these devices and the suspects (National Institute of Justice). 

By legalising non-lethal personal protection items, we can empower individuals with an additional layer of safety while also discouraging criminal activity. It's time we take proactive steps towards ensuring our own safety while respecting human life.
