Law Society of Ontario needs to PROPERLY investigate John David Ekpenyong
The Issue
It is no secret that Toronto lawyer John David Ekpenyong has engaged in serious unethical, unprofessional, and potentially criminal conduct. Despite repeated concerns, judges, prosecutors, police, and the Law Society of Ontario have refused to properly investigate and hold this lawyer accountable for the damage he has inflicted on my life and, potentially, the lives of others.
In my opinion, this lawyer came to Canada on what appears to have been a questionable refugee claim. He reportedly completed legal training in Africa and then challenged the Ontario bar exam in 2016, passing without attending a Canadian law school, which is near impossible. After three years of dealing with him as opposing counsel, it has become evident to me that he does not understand proper legal procedure. He has submitted uncommissioned or unsigned applications and affidavits that were accepted by the courts. Not once did he ever confirm his attendance for any motions or conferences. He is violated dozens a court rules and procedurals yet the Kitchener Waterloo courthouse has allowed this lawyer to continue his bogus court proceedings with these blatant violations. He has submitted over $325,000 in FRAUDULENT court cost claims, while admitting in an affidavit that his client paid under $30,000.
These are serious concerns. Yet the Law Society of Ontario, despite being formally notified, has failed to take meaningful action. I filed a detailed complaint supported by transcripts and documentation, including evidence of false statements made to judges and what I believe to be inflated or fraudulent cost submissions. The complaint was reportedly handled by Ari Kashton, who claims to be a senior fraud investigator, but my concerns were dismissed without properly addressing the substance of the evidence. He and the LSO also sat on my complaint for three years and did not answer to the evidence I submitted of Judical Perjury and Fraud. Christopher Wight, in a supervisory role, supported that decision.
The Law Society sat on my complaint for three years. Meanwhile, the Kitchener-Waterloo courthouse accepted a restraining order application that was commissioned but unsigned — raising further concerns about administrative oversight and accountability.
According to the Law Society of Ontario’s 2024 annual report, approximately 6,500 complaints were received. However, they do not clearly disclose how many complaints were sustained versus dismissed. From my experience, the complaints process does not work. The system appears to protect its own rather than protect the public.
Lawyers who blatantly disregard the Law Society’s Code of Conduct and professional standards must be properly investigated. No one should be above accountability. The Law Society’s mandate is to protect the public interest — not to shield misconduct.
I am asking for public support to sign this petition to bring awareness directly to the CEO of the Law Society of Ontario. I am calling for a proper, independent review of my complaint and a transparent investigation into this lawyer’s conduct.
This has destroyed my finances and severely damaged my reputation. This is not okay. Accountability and transparency matter.
I am asking for your support to ensure this complaint is revisited and that meaningful action is taken.
John David Ekpenyong is also currently being prosecuted by the Law Society Tribunal for a separate unethical and potentially criminal incident for more information. Check out the link below:

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION and TOGETHER LETS HOLD JOHN DAVID EKPENYONG ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS ACTIONS OF DISHONESTY AND ABUSING HIS ONTARIO LAWYER’S LICENSE.
