CLOSURE WITHOUT CONSULTATION  IN NEW BRUNSWICK

New Brunswick’s heritage sites, parks, and cultural facilities are public treasures that deserve protection and thoughtful consideration before any action is taken towards their closure or divestment. Yet, under the current system, there is no formal process for municipalities to be notified or to provide input before these decisions are made. This leaves our local governments and communities blindsided and powerless in the face of sudden changes.

We call on the Government of New Brunswick to implement a mandated formal consultation process. And to make it administrative law. This would ensure municipalities receive advance notice and are afforded a defined period to respond before any closures or divestment of heritage sites, parks, or cultural facilities are approved. Such a process would not only uphold the democratic rights of local communities but also foster transparent and accountable governance.

It is essential that all voices across New Brunswick are heard, from city dwellers to residents in the most remote areas. We need a system that respects the opinions of all stakeholders and gives weight to the collective voice of the people.

Let us protect what makes New Brunswick unique. Join us in the fight to safeguard our community’s heritage and resources for present and future generations. Stand up with us, Canada. Lend us your support. Give us your ear. Sign this petition and let every voice be heard. Let it become law in New Brunswick. And an example for every province to protect that which makes our Canadian communities strong and unique.
