Parents in Kansas are having their children taken into State Custody with a short supply of foster families and group homes. These children are being forced to sleep on tables and floors in DCFS and KVC office buildings while placement is searched for.

Kansas DCFS and Children's Court are NOT being held accountable! Parents with mental health and addiction history are berated continuously throughout court hearings and DCFS/KVC meetings, even during and after treatment/recovery. They make parents feel belittled while fighting to regain custody and place almost impossible standards on recovering addicts/mental health patients.

Addiction IS a mental health condition, it IS treatable, and recovery can be successful when given the proper medical/recovery resources!

I'm a recovering addict with multiple mental health diagnoses that had the personal experience of Kansas DCFS/KVC and Children's Court systems fail my family.

My children aged out of the Kansas Foster Care system. My younger daughter is still caught in the system for my grandson. My grandson was placed in foster care away from his mother on 11/23/21. The accusations are fear for his well being due to mental health diagnosis. Please help parents/grandparents.

Accountability should fall on everyone, especially those in power.

I have been trying to get visits via video with Jr. I have been told that my rights as a grandparent do not trump the system. Grandparents DO have rights! Grandparents DO have the right to visit with their grandchildren, even via video. Please continue sharing and requesting signatures for change and action to take place!

Help keep those in power held accountable for the way they treat families fighting for their rights and the children caught in the cross-hairs. Our leaders need to get involved to see that action IS taken.

This is my current email correspondence with the Kansas KVC Case Manager that is overseeing the "care and best interest"ATTENTION of my daughters case for my grandson:

SHALONA STEWART KANSAS KVC DEPARTMENT CASE MANAGER

I am reaching out, yet again, to inquire about the health, well-being, and safety of my biological grandson, JuanCarlos Luna Jr. I keep records of every attempt to communicate and interact with the person/people that have "authority" over my grandson and every ignored attempt. I keep these records to notify the public on how the Kansas Child Services and KVC offices, public servants, refuse to interact with family of children in your foster care system and the lack of compassion for the families attempting to maintain a relationship with those children. I have been in my grandson's life his WHOLE life until 3 days before Thanksgiving of 2021. Since that time I have been ignored, dismissed, alienated, and flat out told I can't maintain my relationship with my grandson because the people in "power" claim to know how best to raise a child. I have tried to be polite and do this the right way. After 2 weeks of being ignored by the case manager and her supervisor I will be posting about it in my petition for Kansas Child Services, Foster Care, and KVC reform. Parental and Grandparental alienation is a huge problem with your "power to help and maintain family relations" and a complete contradiction to the role "those in power" have to "maintain family relations". Please feel free to forward to any attorneys or judges because I DO have an active petition running against my above stated actions from those that claim to have the "children's best interest in mind". More children are abused sexually, mentally, physically, and emotionally, and/or die in YOUR foster care system then the PUBLIC are allowed to be made aware of. I do refer specifically to the Kansas Department of Children and Family Services, the Kansas Foster Care System, the Kansas KVC Department, and those that oversee these family alienations with no care to the harm they are really doing, mentally, to these children and families. My grandson now has a social anxiety because after 3 years of being with his mother, my daughter, Hunter Mosley, he was taken "in fear of his safety" and thrust into an unknown environment filled with people he had never met, but I'm the "complete stranger" to him. These are important concerns that the families in the State of Kansas face, yet "authority figures" stand by and allow. You are harming children and families more then you are willing to acknowledge and it's time for the communities and the public, you serve, to be made aware of such actions. I WILL be posting this specific email into my petition as well as the correspondence concerning his new "mental instability". I will also, happily, make it known that KDCFS and KVC use mental health as a means to take children away from their families, which is also noted in my petition, "for the best interest of the children". Uncaring that, speaking from MY personal experience with your "services", it also plays a factor in the mental health of the parent/s. Using mental health as a key reason, specifically my daughter, to remove children based on the words of others with NO attempt to verify such accusations. Just because someone has a mental illness DOES NOT mean they are a danger to their children/family/society, ESPECIALLY while in the care of a Mental Health Professional. These tactics were used against me and caused me to have a mental break, which ALSO happened to my daughter, because parents are led to believe they "aren't good enough" by your people in service to the public. Thank you for giving me more proof to add to my petition on WHY your "services" and "policies" need reform.
